Sweet Alyssum / Lobularia
Sweet Alyssum Flower DescriptionSweet Alyssum provides low level compact covering in flower beds. It is perfect for filling cracks in paving and spaces in bedding areas. Sweet Alyssum is also useful in containers and in rockeries. A profusion of small flowers continually bloom from the beginning of summer right through to the autumn in a variety of colours including white, lilac, pink, red, and purple. Cultivation of Sweet AlyssumSweet Alyssum thrives in full sun and will do well in most well-drained soils that aren't too rich in nutrients. Alyssum seeds should be sown sparingly in their permanent site from early spring. When the seedlings can take being handled they should be thinned out to a distance of 23cm from each other. To maintain the profusion of blooms use a scissors to deadhead with light trimming of wilted flowers.
Sweet Alyssum Pests and DiseasesSlugs are known to eat seedlings and younger plants.
